Project Overview

5000M2 COLD AND FREEZER ROOM FACILITY
• Two main Boxes created
• Clearance of 12850mm and 8750mm
• Clear spans of 38m on trusses
• Bolted trusses due to depth and ease of transport
• Flush endplate connections on truss bottom cord splices
• Flush connection plates on column splices

Project Details
• Columns all from Hot rolled I beams • Angles for lattice trusses pre-punched and assembled on site
The construction and installation process for the Lusaka cold storage facility was a carefully orchestrated effort. Trusses were pre-assembled on the ground in "boxes" to minimize overhead work, then lifted into place by cranes. Bolted connections were used to facilitate transportation of the oversized truss components from South Africa. The phased approach, starting at one end and progressing systematically, allowed parallel installation of the insulated wall and roof panels. Meticulous planning of the logistics, from material delivery to on-site erection, was crucial to delivering this complex steel structure on time and budget, despite the remote African location.
CONCURRENT STEEL AND PANEL INSTALLATION • Proper coordination with panel installer ACHIEVING PRE-CAMBER ON BOLTED TRUSSES • Using chain blocks and timber dunnage on site to curve bottom cord when assembling trusses
Benefits of Steel in this Application

• Speed of construction
• Large clear spans
• Environmentally friendly
